There are many seasonal maintenance items recommended. Today I want to discuss sealing your walks and decks.

No matter the material used, your walks, decks, and outdoor furniture are constantly being exposed to the sun, snow, and everything else our weather brings. There are many products that clean, protect and seal. Essentially, there are sealants and stains. Both will help with protection from UV rays and the elements. And both repel water.

We recommend you start with cleaning with a detergent and or power washing. Deck cleaning will help remove dirt, nail stains and mold and help make the surface ready for a stain or sealant. Always clean your deck before applying a sealant. Often times there is a dry time of 24 to 72 hours. Then the sealing, simply read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Most sealants and stains can either be brushed on or even sprayed on.

Stone walkways, aprons and patios should be handled in similar fashion. Simply clean the surface really well, and then apply a sealant by either bushing or spraying. Sealing stones will add sheen to its look.

This not only protects your investment but also gives everything a clean and fresh look. You may also want to pressure wash your house and add a fresh coat of paint or stain. Another best practice is to bring inside or cover all outdoor furniture for winter. However every year you should still seal your outdoor furniture.
